About Traverse City Area Public Schools
Traverse City Area Public Schools serves a wide regional community through neighborhood schools and several districtwide learning models. Central High School and West Senior High School anchor the two principal comprehensive routes, while Traverse City High School provides a smaller third high-school setting with a separate enrollment relationship.
TCAPS Montessori forms a long instructional continuum rather than a one-year elementary option. Its programs extend from early childhood through elementary levels and into an adolescent program for ages 12–15, allowing families to remain within the Montessori model across several developmental stages.
Other districtwide routes solve different problems. Talented-and-gifted programming at Central Grade School changes the academic setting for selected elementary students. TCAPS Virtual offers full-time K–8 online learning to families across a five-county region, extending the district beyond its ordinary attendance boundaries.
The district's scale supports local comprehensive high schools, a smaller high-school environment, a multi-stage Montessori sequence, selective elementary programming, and regional virtual enrollment. Each requires a different reading of address, application, and program continuity.
