Okemos Public Schools Calendar 2026-2027

Okemos Public Schools uses a districtwide sequence that narrows as students grow older. Elementary students attend Bennett Woods, Cornell, Hiawatha, or the Central campus, then come together at Kinawa for grades 5–6, Chippewa for grades 7–8, and Okemos High School.

Okemos Public Montessori overlays that sequence rather than operating as one separate K–8 building. The Montessori route begins with pre-primary and elementary classrooms at Central, continues through Kinawa in grades 5–6, and extends to Chippewa in grades 7–8. Students use a distinct instructional model while moving through some of the same district campuses as the conventional program.

Entry is controlled through program registration and, when demand exceeds space, a lottery. A family considering Montessori is therefore choosing a long instructional sequence, not simply selecting the closest elementary school or one isolated classroom.

Okemos combines a highly predictable grade-center route with one cross-campus Montessori continuum. Address and ordinary placement explain the standard path; Montessori participation must be tracked across three buildings and several transition points.
