Battle Creek Public Schools Calendar 2026-2027

Battle Creek Public Schools combines neighborhood schools with application-based specialty options at several stages. Fremont International Academy offers an International Baccalaureate Primary Years setting for grades K–5, while BC STEM Innovation Center provides a STEM-focused route for grades 6–8 alongside the district’s neighborhood middle-school pathway. At the high-school level, Battle Creek Central is the main comprehensive hub and W.K. Kellogg Preparatory High School provides a flexible diploma-completion route.

Battle Creek Central organizes the comprehensive experience through a Freshman Academy and wall-to-wall Career Academies. Ninth-graders enter a smaller transition community, explore career fields, and then move into interest-based pathways that connect core coursework with projects, workplace exposure, college credit, or industry credentials. The academy design gives students a common high-school home while allowing later years to reflect different plans.

W.K. Prep serves grades 10–12 students who may be balancing work, health, family, or other demands and need a more individualized pace. Its current school-within-a-school model places the program at Battle Creek Central while retaining dedicated staff and its own identity. Flexible scheduling, personalized plans, credit recovery, counseling, and postsecondary planning support a route that differs from the comprehensive academy timetable.

The district’s choice structure therefore changes with age: an application may shape elementary or middle school, Career Academies organize the main high-school route, and W.K. Prep protects an alternative path to a diploma. BCPS Virtual Academy adds a full-time online route for grades 3–12, allowing students to learn from home while remaining part of the district. Bearcat Advantage advising and scholarship partnerships extend planning beyond graduation, linking the K–12 system to college and career decisions.
