About Portage Public Schools

Portage Public Schools serves the community through eight elementary schools, three middle schools, and two principal comprehensive high schools. Portage Central and Portage Northern anchor the main secondary routes, giving families two high-school communities within one district.

Both comprehensive high schools provide International Baccalaureate opportunities alongside Advanced Placement, career preparation, arts, athletics, and extracurricular programs. The specific course and diploma combinations may differ by campus and year, so families should examine the current program sequence rather than assume the two schools offer identical menus.

Portage Community High School provides a smaller alternative completion environment. Its role is distinct from the two attendance-area high schools: it serves students who need a different pace, relationship structure, or path toward graduation rather than a third ordinary feeder community. Portage therefore balances a stable two-high-school structure with a district alternative. Most students follow a neighborhood middle-to-high route, while advanced academic and alternative options require separate program planning.
