Grand Rapids Public Schools Calendar 2026-2027

Grand Rapids Public Schools operates through three overlapping layers. Neighborhood schools provide the ordinary address-based route. Application-required theme schools offer citywide instructional models with their own grade spans, admissions procedures, transportation arrangements, and continuity rules. A third group of alternative high-school settings helps students re-engage, recover credits, or complete a diploma outside the ordinary comprehensive timetable.

The theme-school portfolio includes environmental pathways at C.A. Frost, a grades 7–12 International Baccalaureate environment at City High Middle School, Montessori extending from early childhood through high school, and Museum schools that use community institutions as part of a grades 6–12 experience. Southwest Academia Bilingüe, University Preparatory Academy, and Innovation Central add language, college-preparatory, and career-focused models.

Grand Rapids Learning Center operates in partnership with Grand Rapids Community College for 16- to 19-year-olds seeking a diploma, credit recovery, dual enrollment, and a bridge to college or workforce training. Southeast Career Pathways is a referred grades 9–12 alternative high school with small classes and nine-week courses; students can recover credits and receive diplomas from their base high schools.

Families need to separate three questions: which neighborhood school serves the address, which citywide theme school may fit the student, and whether an alternative completion setting is appropriate. Those routes use different application, referral, transportation, and graduation arrangements.
