East Grand Rapids Public Schools Calendar 2027-2028

East Grand Rapids Public Schools has a compact physical structure: Breton Downs, Lakeside, and Wealthy elementary schools lead to one middle school and one high school. Because students do not divide among several district high schools, the most important choices occur inside East Grand Rapids High School and through programs that connect it to outside institutions.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a central part of that structure. Juniors and seniors may pursue the full IB Diploma in addition to the East Grand Rapids High School diploma, studying six subject areas and completing the programme’s higher-level, standard-level, and core requirements. Students may also take individual IB courses as certificate students. Together, those requirements make IB a coherent two-year academic route with its own design and completion expectations.

Other routes are organized differently. Advanced Placement and honors courses remain inside the high school; dual enrollment sends eligible students into college coursework; the Kent Career Tech Center provides career and technical training; Launch U offers an early-college route toward both a diploma and an associate degree; and Michigan Virtual expands the schedule through online credit courses. These options differ in provider, location, timetable, and intended outcome.

East Grand Rapids is consequently more than a stable three-elementary-to-one-high-school sequence. Its single high school operates as a gateway to several distinct academic systems, allowing students who share one campus to build markedly different junior- and senior-year plans.
