About Caledonia Community Schools

Caledonia Community Schools covers a large suburban-rural area southeast of Grand Rapids, extending across parts of three counties and communities shaped by both new residential growth and long-established agriculture. Its school structure reflects that geography. Five elementary schools provide local access, students gather at Kraft Meadows Intermediate School for grades 5–6, continue to Duncan Lake Middle School for grades 7–8, and then enter Caledonia High School.

The districtwide intermediate and middle schools create common transition points for children who may have begun school miles apart. Kraft Meadows introduces a more departmental schedule while preserving support appropriate for fifth- and sixth-graders. Duncan Lake prepares students for the scale and independence of high school. By the time a cohort reaches Caledonia High, it has already spent four years forming a shared identity.

Academic and career opportunities draw from both the district’s rural roots and the wider Grand Rapids economy. Students can encounter STEM, robotics, engineering, agriculture and FFA, visual and performing arts, Advanced Placement, and technical programs available through regional partnerships such as the Kent Career Tech Center. The district’s outdoor and environmental resources also support learning beyond the classroom.

Caledonia’s family experience is shaped by distance as much as program choice. Elementary placement keeps young children closer to home, while later grades require a more centralized routine. In return, the consolidated secondary schools can offer a breadth of courses and activities that would be difficult to sustain in several smaller campuses.
