Birmingham Public Schools Calendar 2026-2027

Birmingham Public Schools serves several Oakland County communities through neighborhood schools, two comprehensive high schools, and a set of specialized settings. Students generally move from an assigned elementary school to a district middle school and then to Groves or Seaholm High School. The two high schools provide distinct campus cultures while sharing district expectations for advanced academics, arts, athletics, career planning, and student support.

Birmingham Covington School creates a different organization in grades 3–8. Its longer specialty-school span centers science, technology, and interdisciplinary learning before students enter a comprehensive high school. At the high-school level, Lincoln Street Alternative serves another purpose. It operates as a district alternative setting for students from Groves and Seaholm who need a smaller or different instructional environment while completing the same graduation requirements and working toward a diploma from their home high school.

International Academy follows a third enrollment logic as a regional, selective International Baccalaureate option. Career-focused courses and county partnerships add still more ways to build a high-school plan, including engineering, computer science, finance, architecture, mechatronics, and education. These opportunities may be delivered at a home campus, a districtwide setting, or a regional program.

Families therefore need to separate ordinary attendance assignment from specialty-school access, alternative placement, and regional admissions. Birmingham’s breadth comes from the interaction of several clearly different structures: neighborhood pathways, two comprehensive high schools, a grades 3–8 specialty school, a district alternative setting, and selective programs beyond the district’s own campuses.
