Bay City Public Schools Calendar 2026-2027

Bay City Public Schools is easier to understand when its high schools are separated by function. Seven elementary schools and two middle schools form the neighborhood base. Bay City Central and Bay City Western are the two comprehensive high-school communities, while Bay City Eastern is an alternative high school for students who are behind in credits or need a smaller setting. A grades 1–12 virtual program adds a separate enrollment format alongside the conventional attendance-area schools.

Academic differentiation begins much earlier than those high-school choices. The district maintains a connected advanced-learning sequence that includes accelerated kindergarten, a gifted program in grades 1–5, and honors programming in grades 6–8. This gives students a district-supported progression before they reach the larger course menus of Central or Western.

At the comprehensive high schools, course planning is organized around career pathways and can extend into career and technical education, dual enrollment with Delta College, or early-college study. Eastern serves a different purpose: flexible scheduling, smaller classes, credit recovery, career-center participation, and work-connected options are used to help students continue toward graduation. The virtual program adds another way to change pace or place while remaining enrolled in Bay City Public Schools.

The resulting system consists of two main comprehensive high schools plus several overlays with different purposes. Families need to distinguish ordinary attendance assignment from gifted and honors services, alternative admission, virtual enrollment, and college-credit programs, because each follows a different set of rules.
