About Southfield Public School District
Southfield Public School District cannot be summarized by one elementary-to-middle-to-high feeder pattern. Neighborhood elementary schools, Levey Middle School, K–8 campuses such as Birney and Thompson International Academy, and University K–12 Academy create different grade configurations before students reach the upper secondary years.
Southfield High School for the Arts & Technology is the district's broad comprehensive and career-focused high school. University K–12 Academy is an exam-based, college-preparatory STEM school spanning elementary through high school; its high-school division is University High School Academy. The two experiences differ in both admission and academic design.
Kennedy Learning Center serves a separate population across school and postsecondary ages. Its individualized, functional program supports students ages 5–17 and young adults ages 18–26 through academics, vocational preparation, community participation, independent-living preparation, and job-coached experiences. Kennedy belongs to the district's specialized education and transition network rather than the ordinary high-school feeder system.
Early-college and dual-enrollment opportunities overlay the A&T and University routes. Families therefore need to distinguish attendance assignment, exam-school admission, specialized placement, and college-program eligibility when mapping a student's path through Southfield.
